All About Stanford Wong
John Ferguson is famous in the gambling world under the name Stanford Wong. In 1975 he published a book Professional Blackjack which became one of the best books in the world of blackjack. The computer program created by Wong "Blackjack Analyzer" was the first one for analyzing the odds of the game. Now Wong owns his private publishing house that is called Pi Yee Press.
Stanford Wong has started his gambling career in 1976 still being a teacher of finance at San Francisco State and received his Ph.D. in Finance in the Stanford University, California. At the last term of his teaching, he agreed to be paid a $1 salary not to attend the faculty meetings and have the ability to continue his blackjack career.
In the 1980's the surname of the famous player turned into the name of the technique used to count the odds. The technique means standing by the game and counting the odds without betting anything, the player then has to step in the game when the odds are favourable and step out in the opposite situation. After this method became popular many casinos started using the tables "No Mid Shoe Entry" not to allow players use the "wonging" method.
Being one of the 12 members of the Blackjack Hall of Fame, Stanford Wong is also famous for being a consultant for such blackjack researchers and consultants as Don Schlesinger and Ian Andersen.
